Approach
I am trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy, which is a form of therapy that works to uncover relational and behavioural patterns, understand internal conflicts, strengthen one’s sense of self, and reflect on the here-and-now. I take an integrative approach, which means I blend other modalities into my way of working. I am drawn to somatic, narrative, and emotion-focused modalities in my work. I bring a curious and grounded presence to my work.
I practice therapy from an anti-oppressive, anti-racist, relational and compassion focused lens. This means I strive to acknowledge the political and institutional systems that create collective and individual harm both in the present and in the past. Some of our work together might include exploring how collective and intergenerational pieces of harm may be impacting your understanding of yourself and your family dynamics. The compassionate lens I bring into session means I take a gentle approach by acknowledging the complexity of your life and context. I work in a way that is paced to your preference.
I find I naturally have an easy fit with clients who struggle to feel understood and seen as who they truly are; those who are deep feelers, over thinkers, nonconformists, misfits, artists, black sheep, or those with a rebellious spirit.
I run a hybrid practice. I see clients both in person and online. I see clients in person on Thursday’s in the Spadina/Bloor area of the city and I see clients in person on Sunday’s in the Dufferin/Bloor area of the city.
“Healing is not just about what we experience in the present, it’s also about how we understand the past, how we name our histories and frame the times in which we live.” — Susan Raffo
